Helping World Rugby transform the future of the women’s game for good

As Global Partner of Women in Rugby and Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2021, Capgemini is committed to supporting female leaders to transform the game of rugby.

Our Global Ambassador, Stacey Fluhler, takes us through her transformational story. With her focus on the future, Stacey shares her vision for rugby, knowing that the opportunity to build the future we want is in our hands.

Women in Rugby program

As a Global Partner of the Women in Rugby program, we support the Women in Rugby Leadership program. This identifies and develops the current and next generation of female leaders in the world of rugby, enabling inspirational role models to fulfil their potential and create further parity across the game. Each year, 12 scholars are granted access to the best learning programs from the Capgemini University.

We are deeply committed to promoting equal opportunities both in tech and in rugby, on and off the pitch. As part of our ESG commitments, we have set an ambitious objective to reach 30% of women in executive leadership positions at Capgemini by 2025, and our University is a key tool for us to grow top female talent.

Transformational stories

Capgemini celebrates transformational leaders with a series of stories sharing insights and experiences from inspiring women within our business and from the Women in Rugby program we support.

Rowena Davenport is a Director of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union and a Capgemini Women in Rugby Scholar, find out more about her story from a rugby player, to becoming the first female chair of a major provincial union in New Zealand and the transformational work she is having on the game.

Women in Rugby Leadership scholar Becky Davies shares her story of playing a key role at RWC 2015 and how that experience culminated in World Rugby offering her an executive scholarship for the Women in Rugby program.

From Project Manager to Director, Deepa Puthan Variam transformed her team’s cross-cultural and global relationship’s through her dedication to meticulous data reports that inform decision making.

Highlights of the Rugby World Cup 2021

DigiGirlz – the importance of digital inclusion

In celebration of wāhine toa (strong, empowered women) in sport and in the world of tech, on Saturday 22 October, Capgemini and Microsoft partnered to run a DigiGirlz day in Whangarei in New Zealand’s Northland (Te Tai Tokerau).

The event was specifically offered to female-identifying students (years 9–13), designed to encourage students who may never have considered a career in tech to find out more and see all the future career opportunities that exist for them. The day comprised of hands-on tech showcases, stories, and panels for approximately 50 schoolgirls. The day culminated with all the girls attending the Black Ferns vs. Scotland match!

This initiative supports Capgemini’s commitment to creating inclusive cultures and building diverse workforces, and its drive to have women representing 40% of its total workforce (currently 35.8%) by 2025.

Women in Leadership – supporting female leaders

Ahead of the RWC2021 final, we hosted an expert panel at the World Rugby Women in Rugby Summit. We brought together experts in the fields of business and rugby to talk about the impact of our contribution to female leaders and the future of women’s rugby to an audience that included key influencers and decision-makers in the women’s game. To celebrate the Women in Rugby scholars, we also hosted the Leadership Programme graduation ceremony.

We are strongly committed to supporting female leaders both in rugby and in business, creating a pipeline of leaders at the top of the company, in line with our ESG objective of having 30% of the top of our organization composed of women.
