When the DSGVO reaches its borders

Austrian Companies and how they handle data protection laws from third countries

Much has changed since 25 May 2018: Data protection laws globally are on the rise. Their enforcement is increasing and is often “extraterritorial”. National regulations of third countries also apply to Austrian companies if they process personal data of citizens in third countries or within the respective country. In a globalized world in which digital products and services can be consumed everywhere, foreign data protection regulations add up and thus challenge the data protection organizations of Austrian companies that are currently only regulated by the so called DSGVO.

In our study, we examine a variety of international data protection developments and highlight the challenges of Austrian companies in the context of data protection requirements in non-EU countries.

Our study looks at two dimensions – data protection culture and data protection compliance. Along these dimensions, we have determined the maturity of Austrian companies in dealing with international data protection requirements. A sustainable data protection organization requires a living data protection culture and a high degree of maturity of established data protection compliance measures. In our study, we examine these dimensions in more detail as well as offer a self-assessment tool as part of the brochure.

We wish you a lovely reading and are looking forward to hearing from you!
