Clean core with Capgemini multi-pillar S/4HANA architecture

Organizations are embarking on major transformation programs to meet their business ambitions implementing new business models, responding to demanding  customer expectations, effectively anticipating market opportunities.

Clients want to stay competitive, cost-effective, sustainable and responsive to change being able to quickly adapt and get to market rapidly.

They learned that the old approach of solving business problems by developing custom code into existing (or even new) ERP applications does not work:  we need to find the right solution to solve these problems. We need a composable architecture combining the elements required to align business priorities with IT landscape.

To make this happen for our clients, at Capgemini we use our Multi-Pillar S/4HANA Architecture (MPSA) approach, fully embedding the clean core principles, to design and implement their composable and ever-evolving architecture.

Multi-Pillar S/4HANA Architecture (MPSA)

“The difference between good and bad architecture is the time you spend on it”

Sir David Chipperfield.

Over the last year and half Capgemini’s Multi Pillar S/4HANA Architecture (MPSA) approach has proved to be a catalyst on S/4HANA transformations.

MPSA is Capgemini’s Enterprise Architecture framework to help designing architectures aligned with business ambitions, following the SAP Clean Core best practices.

MPSA looks holistically at the Client landscape and curates all the transition (interim) states while moving from the legacy ECC to S/4HANA to ensure a clean core and all the required solutions smoothly integrated for edge to core processes.

Our approach to modernizing business architecture revolves around three key pillars:

We leverage SAP S/4HANA along with its satellites like Ariba, Fieldglass, Concur, and decentralized systems such as EWM and TM. These are unified through Fiori front ends for a seamless user experience. Our focus here is on standard SAP data models and streamlined business processes, ensuring readiness for cloud and as-a-service models.

This pillar is about flexibility and innovations. Depending on your transformation goals and IT architecture, we help you in implementing the SAP Cloud Platform (SAP BTP), elevating the “B” of Business and the “T” of Technology coming from the acronym BTP.

Here, we accommodate third-party applications and cloud platforms to complement SAP capabilities.

We ensure an hybrid architecture to design and shape based on the client needs: User experience is paramount, with solutions tailored to each pillar’s needs, regardless of the framework chosen. Meanwhile, data remains central, serving as the foundation for all operations and exposed through across the pillars.

With this approach, we empower businesses to embrace agility, flexibility, modernization while maintaining efficiency and adaptability.

  2. Carve-outing technical debts from the package: Preserving historical investments, we have dedicated tools to re-architect technical solutions on SAP BTP, applying as well as Gen-AI accelerators.
  3. Applying Capgemini Multi-Pillar S/4HANA Architecture (MPSA) approach – Modernization journey is covered by a specific best-practice, decision-trees to know how and where to re-architect personalization’s.
  4. Leverage on out- of-the-box SAP solution embedded into the packages (S/4HANA, Ariba, SuccessFactors, others): Typically S/4HANA is running with a lot of non-active new functionalities that can be used by standard, to replace customizations
  5. Consuming SAP BTP services replacing traditional netweaver customizations: low-code/no-code/Procode new solutions can be used, augmented by SAP Joule, as a new way of working leveraging also on Citizen-Developer
