Norway’s path to sustainable battery development

An analysis of the challenges and opportunities facing the Norwegian battery value chain

The battery industry is considered to be one of Norway’s next big industrial opportunities. Norway is an attractive country for hosting a sustainable battery industry with hundreds of years of transferable experience, great amounts of renewable energy, ethical work environments, and a massive potential for sustainable raw material extraction. While global demand for sustainable batteries rises, the industry continues to experience volatility. Europe aims to develop a sustainable and independent battery value chain, but China is oversupplying batteries, and the IRA is creating a tough market. If Norway wants to succeed in this industry, action must be taken now.

In collaboration with the battery cluster Battery Norway, Capgemini Invent has created the report Norway’s path to sustainable battery development. The report identifies seven areas that will need to be addressed, highlighting both challenges and opportunities Norway will face. Additionally, it presents four key recommendations crucial for a successful acceleration of a Norwegian battery industry.
