H1 2024 saw a confirmation of dynamism in the market, with an unprecedented number of new deals announced in a single semester.
With unprecedented volatility in energy prices and increased commitment to ambitious sustainability targets, many companies have started paying close attention to Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs). These agreements between producers and consumers secure high-quality green energy for the long-term at a stable price. But with so much data now flooding the market, it can be difficult to zero in on the most important information. To combat this, Capgemini Invent has created a CPPA Barometer, a detailed and impartial report on historical evolutions, trends and latest deals between producers and offtakers.
H1 2024 saw market dynamism remaining strong with a slightly increasing deal count, steered by tech giants with massive agreements, but the panel of offtakers continued to diversify with smaller businesses signing their first PPAs. However, as PPA negotiations are lengthy processes, the H1 announcements reflect efforts that were already underway a long time ago, under different market conditions. Conditions have become more complex in 2024 with market prices remaining low and cannibalization on the rise. We will look at how the market reacted in a future issue.
