Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I’m responsible for a team of about 90 people who are experts in different kinds of software development, from apps for mobile phones to software that controls production machines. All the software that we develop forms part of complex systems that you can find in your daily life but may ignore – for instance, card payment systems, pharma production lines, physical access control systems, and renewable energy generation. I find it very exciting when I find these systems myself, when I buy something and pay with my card, when I travel and see a wind farm, when I get my Covid-19 vaccine, and so on. I think to myself, “My team contributes to making this work.”

But even more exciting is facing the daily challenges of my team and feeling that I contribute to their growth by understanding their needs (both on the technical side and on the personal front) and recommending areas of improvement.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

You know one thing? I was sceptical before joining the organization. It was a friend of mine who convinced me to come just for one short project. That was more than 14 years ago, and I’m still here!

Working in Capgemini means that I always feel supported when I have ideas. Sometimes to continue with things as they are, and sometimes to change them, but always to grow together. Whenever I ask about something, I’m confident that I will get a positive answer. And, when the answers come from world-class technical experts, they are also very useful! I think that this is because of our Values, and I also think that in the end, our approach of innovation, compromise and honesty is what makes us great, and what makes me so happy to contribute here.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

Without a doubt, our Values.

I have been involved in difficult decisions several times. In business, we always think about the margins and revenue. That’s a good thing! But we have always strived to find ways to take people into account, and to do business fairly and with honesty.

I feel that my time here, living these Values, has made me grow and helped me to contribute to them.

How are you working towards the future you want?

I try to spread in my team the way of thinking and working that I have described so far. And, above all, I always try to seek the point of view that is driven by our Values. Naturally there are problems and difficult situations, but they must be seen as opportunities. I try to convey this approach to my team.

I also try to contribute towards making Capgemini a collaborative workplace, and find ways to improve camaraderie between us. Look, which other organization could have the vast abundance of varied knowledge that we do? Imagine putting this all together! Whenever I have had the chance to put this to the test, it’s been really great.

So, I can say that I work towards the future I want by having fun in the present!

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

I would advise you to be yourself and always look for ways to grow together. Without shame or caution, but with commitment, honesty and a desire for excellence (and fun!).

I would suggest that you get to know Capgemini well enough to get the most out of it and to be able to contribute as much as possible. And I would remind you that the rest of us are here to help you, starting with your managers and Human Resources.
