SAP S/4HANA Cloud für Automobilzulieferer: ElringKlinger startet Pilotprojekt in Japan

Modernisieren, vereinheitlichen und standardisieren: Für seine japanische Landesgesellschaft setzt der Automobilzulieferer ElringKlinger nun auf ein Cloud-basiertes ERP von SAP und Capgemini, das speziell auf die Branche ausgerichtet ist – ein Pilotprojekt für die Konzernzentrale in Dettingen, Deutschland.

Ein voll integriertes ERP-System mit Standard-Automotive-Prozessen „out of the box“, wenig Aufwand für den Betrieb der Lösung, volle Transparenz über das Business und mehr Agilität, sich an sich schnell ändernde Marktbedingungen flexibel anzupassen: Das sind die Anforderungen des für IT zuständigen Finanzvorstands Thomas Jessulat von ElringKlinger. Bei der japanischen Tochter des baden-württembergischen Automobilzulieferers ist derzeit ein entsprechendes Pilotprojekt gestartet, um das bestehende ERP zu ersetzen und damit einen wichtigen Baustein für die zukünftige Systemlandschaft zu schaffen. Dafür setzt das Unternehmen, das 2020 knapp 1,5 Milliarden Euro erwirtschaftet hat, künftig auf die neue ERP-Generation von SAP – S/4HANA Cloud. „Ein Grund war für uns, dass es jetzt eine auf Zulieferer zugeschnittene Branchenausprägung von SAP S/4HANA gibt“, so Thomas Jessulat, der diese Software nun in Japan einsetzen will. Die japanische Landesgesellschaft wird somit ein S/4HANA-Vorläufer werden, ehe dann auch weitere Systeme auf S/4HANA wechseln.

ElringKlinger nutzt Standardfunktionalitäten für Automobilzulieferer

In der strategischen AutoCloud-Initiative entwickelt Capgemini in Zusammenarbeit mit SAP seit 2019 an der Ausprägung des cloud-basierten Branchenstandards für Automobilzulieferer. SAP S/4HANA Cloud für Automobilzulieferer ist eine Software-as-a-Service Lösung, die die gängigen Standardprozesse von Zulieferern abdeckt und in Co-Innovation und Joint Development zusammen mit Partnern aus der Industrie ständig weiterentwickelt wird. Elektronischer Geschäftsdatenaustausch, Finanz- und Fertigungsprozesse, die Produktionsplanung und -steuerung sowie Beschaffungs-, Service- und Lieferprozesse sind einige der Funktionalitäten, die out-of-the-box verfügbar sind. Von „Best of Breed“ für Automobilzulieferer spricht Joachim Skarpil, Head of Automotive Suppliers Germany von Capgemini. Ein weiterer Vorteil der Software: Über die SAP Business Technology Platform – eine Cloud-Entwicklungs- und Integrationsumgebung – lassen sich individuelle Innovationen entwickeln und lässt sich so das Standardsystem erweitern, ohne das Kernsystem S/4HANA zu verändern. Damit bleiben Kunden immer „upgrade-fähig“, können also ständig von den Weiterentwicklungen des Systems durch SAP profitieren.

Geschäftsrisiken durch Cloud-ERP-Standard senken

Ein aktuell wichtiger Nebeneffekt der Cloud-Lösung liegt darin, dass die Geschäftsrisiken durch das neue System gesenkt werden können. So sind beispielsweise Lieferketten durch Veränderungen der geopolitischen Lage und der Corona-Pandemie volatiler geworden. „Unsere japanische Tochter verfügt über verschiedene Systeme, weshalb viele Geschäftsprozesse und Transaktionen nicht integriert und durchgängig sind. Da das aktuelle System für Produktionsprozesse, das in Japan im Einsatz ist, zudem ausläuft, haben wir nach einer Alternative für Japan gesucht“, erläutert CIO Stephan Gemm, der sich vom neuen Cloud-System Abhilfe verspricht: „Die SAP-Strategie soll durch Satelliten eine flexiblere Gestaltung der Landschaft ermöglichen und diese gleichzeitig näher an unser SAP-System heranholen.“

Mit Japan testet ElringKlinger, ob die SAP S/4HANA Cloud auch eine Lösung für kleinere Standorte sein kann. Zusammen mit Capgemini soll der neue Standard in der japanischen Landesgesellschaft im Laufe dieses Jahres implementiert werden. „Das kann auch remote geschehen“, erläutert Capgemini-Manager Skarpil die Möglichkeit, die Cloud-Software auch aus der Ferne zum Einsatz zu bringen: „Das ist wichtig gerade in diesen unsicheren Zeiten.“

SAP S/4HANA Cloud for automotive suppliers: ElringKlinger launches pilot project in Japan

Modernise, unify and standardise: For its Japanese subsidiary, automotive supplier ElringKlinger now relies on a cloud-based ERP from SAP that is specifically tailored to the industry – a pilot project for the group headquarter in Dettingen, Germany.

A fully integrated ERP system with standard automotive processes „out of the box“, little effort to operate the solution, full transparency over the business and more agility to adapt flexibly to rapidly changing market conditions: These are the requirements of Thomas Jessulat, CFO and responsible for IT at ElringKlinger. At the Japanese subsidiary of the Baden-Württemberg-based automotive supplier, a corresponding pilot project is currently in progress to replace the existing ERP and thus create an important building block for the future system landscape. For this purpose, the company, which generated almost 1.5 billion euros in 2020, will in future rely on the new ERP generation from SAP – S/4HANA Cloud. „One reason for us was that there is now an industry version of SAP S/4HANA tailored to automotive suppliers,“ says Thomas Jessulat, who wants to implement this software in Japan. The Japanese subsidiary will thus become an S/4HANA precursor before other systems also switch to S/4HANA.

ElringKlinger uses standard functionalities for automotive suppliers

As part of the strategic AutoCloud initiative, Capgemini has been working with SAP since 2019 to develop the cloud-based industry standard for automotive suppliers. SAP S/4HANA Cloud for automotive suppliers¹ is a software-as-a-service solution that covers the common standard processes of suppliers and is constantly being further developed in co-innovation and collaboration with industry partners. Electronic business data exchange, financial and manufacturing processes, production planning and controlling as well as procurement, service and delivery processes are some of the functionalities available out-of-the-box. Joachim Skarpil, Head of Automotive Suppliers Germany at Capgemini, refers to it as „best of breed“ for automotive suppliers. Another advantage of the software is that individual innovations can be developed via the SAP Business Technology Platform – a cloud development and integration environment – and the standard system can thus be expanded without changing the core S/4HANA system. This means that customers always remain „upgradeable“, i.e. they will benefit from further developments of system by SAP.

Reducing business risks through the cloud ERP standard

A currently important side effect of the cloud solution is that the new system can reduce business risks. For example, supply chains have become more volatile due to changes in the geopolitical situation and the Corona pandemic. „Our Japanese subsidiary has different systems, so many business processes and transactions are not integrated and end-to-end. In addition, since the current system for production processes in use in Japan is being phased out, we have been looking for an alternative for Japan,“ explains CIO Stephan Gemm, who expects the new cloud system to solve this issue: „The SAP strategy is to use satellites to make the landscape more flexible while bringing it closer to our SAP system.“ With Japan as the pilot, ElringKlinger is testing whether the SAP S/4HANA Cloud can also be a solution for smaller sites. Together with Capgemini, the new standard will be implemented at the Japanese subsidiary later this year. „This can also be done remotely,“ says Capgemini manager Skarpil, explaining the possibility of deploying the cloud software: „That is important especially in these uncertain times.“
