Summer Bootcamp – Invent

Talent is one of our major backbones. At Capgemini Invent, there is a strong emphasis on upskilling and learning. Recently, we conducted a unique summer bootcamp for our Belgian colleagues. Using the lean-time during the summer break, this opportunity allowed our colleagues to experience in-house training sessions by our expert consultants.

These consultants, led by our managers and directors, shared their expertise on real-life projects with a pragmatic and practical focus on ongoing projects. From July to August 2024, we conducted 17 sessions across 9 topics, and more sessions will be planned in the coming months.

Charles-Edward Jackson, Senior Manager, Strategy and Digital Transformation at Capgemini Invent shares his experience on driving this initiative in the inaugural edition.

It’s exciting to hear about the Summer Bootcamp at Invent Belgium. What inspired you to bring this initiative to Invent Belgium?

Charles-Edward: To be honest, when my HR colleagues and the management team brought this initiative, it sounded like music to my ears. I believe, in consultancy, people are the key, and we all need to upskill continuously. We used the summer break to our advantage to benefit from experienced managers and learn from real project cases.

How did we adapt the Summer Bootcamp to meet the needs of our Belgian team?

Charles-Edward: Most of the content was created from scratch based on latest projects experience. We wanted to have it very concrete with direct tips, tricks, and tools to be used by our consultants from day 1.

As this was the inaugural edition, what were the primary goals for the first edition?

Charles-Edward: We wanted to give everyone on our team the opportunity to upskill based on their own career paths and focus on areas where they felt they needed to learn the most.

What were the specific challenges that you encountered while organizing this bootcamp?

Charles-Edward: I must admit that it was a nice and smooth ride. Of course, everyone is doing this along with their day-to-day tasks. So, managing their agendas and priorities wasn’t always an easy task.

“I gained a wealth of knowledge from the summer bootcamps, deepening my insights into a variety of topics. The hands-on approach made complex subjects more accessible. Overall, it was an enriching experience that broadened my understanding.”

– Chatia Dvalishvili, Consultant, ET W&O

How did you ensure that these sessions were practical and directly applicable to the ongoing projects?

Charles-Edward: We made a clear request, right at the start, to the facilitators to focus on practical and directly applicable content.

What feedback have you received from the participants? How do you think this bootcamp has impacted the consultants?

Charles-Edward: It’s overwhelming to receive big smiles! All the participants were happy with the quality of the trainings brought to them. I really hope this training makes them smarter than they were already before, and they are ready to impress clients and internal managers with their latest learnings.

How do you envision the program developing in the future?

Charles-Edward: This initiative should be taking place on an ongoing basis. Of course, we cannot replicate the same thing each time. So, I imagine more interactive sessions with theoretical refreshers where needed and new exercises based on the latest projects.

What has been the most rewarding part of organizing and running the Summer Bootcamp for you personally?

Charles-Edward: There can be nothing more satisfying than seeing happy consultants 😊!

Thank you, Charles for sharing these insights with us. We appreciate how this initiative has taken shape. Wishing more success for the bootcamp in the future!

2024 Summer Bootcamp Recap

“I loved the fact that there were various trainings available and that we had the freedom to choose those according to our needs. Besides, the trainings were good to elaborate on my skills.”

– Amaury Vanlerberghe, Consultant, frog

“While it is true that upskilling our people through training opportunities is a priority, it’s even more impactful to make this a concrete reality. By moving beyond theory and addressing real-world situations, animated by our own people, we create the virtuous cycle and learning culture that we believe in.”

– Eline Blanc, HR Partner
