“What I like most about working at Capgemini is the variety and autonomy the company offers. Capgemini’s 7 Values and career model allow everyone to develop according to their strengths and preferences.”

What does your average day look like?

My role as Applications Consultant in the Technology Transformation department in Capgemini’s Munich office mainly revolves around SAP projects in the automotive sector. I support customers in the introduction, further development or migration of business and IT processes using SAP products. I very much act as an interface between the functional areas and the software developers, which adds a lot of variety to my job.

My involvement ranges from conceptual design through implementation and testing to the actual use of the solution. Since this touches all project phases, I need both functional consulting skills, such as proposal writing or requirements engineering, and technical skills – especially in regard to implementation or testing.

This variety is what makes my role as Applications Consultant so exciting and sets it apart. It allows me to see cause and effect within the big picture.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

What I like most about working at Capgemini is the variety and autonomy the company offers. Each project is a new challenge and offers many different insights. When I first joined Capgemini, I worked for three different clients and in four different technical areas within just two and a half years. Each project helped me grow and gain new skills. I was able to assess what I’m good at and what I enjoy.

And I have to add: Capgemini’s 7 Values and career model allow everyone to develop according to their strengths and preferences. Especially when you first start out on your career, the career model allows you to adapt your career path as you discover your real strengths and weaknesses.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

It has to be working alongside fantastic colleagues. I also like the fact that professional development is tailored to each individual. There are no rigid structures. As the work is project-based, everyone covers a range of tasks and can take their work in a new direction depending on the project they are involved in.

I also really appreciate having fluid teams. At Capgemini, I meet new people all the time and can network. I work with a diverse range of personalities with many different backgrounds. I frequently meet people who are phenomenal in their specialty area and offer a wealth of experiences. It’s something very special.

How are you working towards the future you want?

Every day, I can visualize a new possible future when I see it in action at work. Capgemini encourages growth among employees by giving us the freedom to contribute our own ideas, design our own career path, and pursue our own goals. This growth is not only facilitated from above, but very much between colleagues.

I already mentioned the diversity at Capgemini. Colleagues have different backgrounds and contribute different experiences. I find it very inspiring to be surrounded by people with this range of skills. I thrive on being guided by people that have already achieved their personal goals, and are willing to coach me, recommend suitable training courses, and offer advice when I’m facing a challenge in my projects. Being open to their input helps me improve my methodology, technical skills and consulting skills. But I can also gain from their experience on a personal level, for instance, by looking at how they balance work and family life.

I also find it reassuring to work alongside female role models who are remarkably successful at achieving that balance.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

Above all, there is no need to worry about your SAP skills when you join. Capgemini offers a targeted training program to help you gain the skills you need and prepare you for project assignments. Every university graduate in our field goes through this SAP training and certification. It covers SAP topics, training in core consulting skills and other soft skills. You then apply what you learned in your first smaller SAP project assignments.

This training provides you with a solid foundation for your role that you can build on and expand with a tailored training plan – and of course, you will pick up a lot on each project assignment.
